RE: Satellite Internet Access

We've been using a Direct Star roof mounted antenna on the RV and a fixed antenna at home. I installed both. You've accurately described the issues. Under trees-poor to no signal. Tripod mount- storage issues, big heavy dish, needs to be up as it does radiate when transmitting and can be a PITA to set up.
Decide what you need based on where you spend more time and your frustration factor to tolerate a tripod setup.
One issue you need to think about is which satellite you will be assigned to. When I subscribed, Hughes would assign you to a satellite of their choice, based on your address, and you couldn't change it. For the same price I got my service through a reseller, and can change satellites twice a year. We go to Alaska often so we use Horizon 1 at 127W.

RE: Double Posts

I copy the post and if it hangs up more than a few seconds I close the dialog box and click outside of RV.net... like to Yahoo or something. Then I reenter RV.net and repost if needed. Never a double post since I have done this.Like I said, I know how to get around it.
SOMETHING'S WRONG.
What I want to know is when they're going to fix it!

Double Posts

OK folks, when are we going to get this nonsense that's causing all the double posts cleared up?
Yeah, I know how to see if mine went in regardless of the warning note I get, but it's obvious many don't and the system is still messed up. I use a number of portals, but get the problem much more often on the RVNet one.
It's been this way for weeks and if anything it's getting worse.

RE: La Mesa RV San Bernardino Going Out Of Business

If it's La Mesa, know that they doctor the Tiffin MSRP numbers. They have engaged in scams for years.Actually depends on which dealership you're talking to. But regardless, a 2008 42' Allegro Bus with a tag for under $250K is a deal. I really don't care what they SAY it was worth.

s1214, you might want to look at this listing. Military CG's The other one is somewhat out of date, and misses a lot of sites.

RE: La Mesa RV San Bernardino Going Out Of Business

I just got an email from La Mesa about a REALLY big sale they're promoting. No mention of where, but some unbelievable prices on new BIG RV's.
Times--they are getting tough.

RE: Wally World Oil Changes

You did it right by watching closely, and you got a good job. Doesn't get much better than that. If I had such an experience, I'd probably do it again and again EXACTLY the same way.
Congratulations, you're a good shopper, and a smart one.

RE: Supplemental braking system with RV exhaust brake

You may get a deceleration when a PAC brake is first engaged, but generally speaking it is used to keep speed under control rather than try to stop the rig. That being the case, the portable system will only work momentarily, then will drop out.
I messed with a Blue Ox Apollo system for a while and finally put in a SMI Air Force One. Couldn't be happier. We travel A LOT, over 60K miles in 3 years, with 2 trips to Alaska and a lot of mountain driving. Nothing to see in the truck, and nothing to hook up once I plug it in. It doesn't get any easier than a 4 minute hook up.

RE: Fallout from dealership collapse

All well and good that you're not concerned, but perhaps you should be. When one of the other parties involved gets concerned you're liable to get a visit from the repro man as THEY have a former unsatisfied claim on the unit. In cases like these, EVERYONE WATCHES OUT FOR THEMSELVES.
GET A LAWYER so you have someone else watching out for you. When the nut cuttin' time comes, it'll be every man for themselves, and Devil take the hindmost.

RE: How To Fill The Fresh Water....

We put an auxiliary tank level indicator in the wet bay when we put in the SeeLevel system. I just push a button and know what I have. I can also check gray and black tanks when dumping.

RE: Flying J alienating the RV customers!

Going to be interesting in Arizona with rigs over 26,000lb. They're not allowed to use the RV diesel pumps as the state tax rules are different for those over 26,000 lb. I can see some VERY VERY long lines at the RV pumps. The cops will no doubt have something to say to Flying-J about that.
JohnDo they have signs posted? The FJ web site does not say anything about it and If I am traveling thru AZ I don't know it so what happens if I use the rv islands.Yep, every pump in the RV lanes contains a warning from the state about their screwy tax structure. I may not have seen every Arizona pump, but I bet I've seen more than half. Check the difference in diesel prices between these two sites. Thats the tax.

When's the last time you lubed them? Check your books or the internet and you'll be VERY surprised at how often that chore must be done.

RE: Why clean bathrooms?

Gee, there's a marketing gimmick the RV industry has missed. Since some never use their bathrooms, RV's could be ordered without bathrooms. That way folks could save a ton of money on tp and get all that extra storage room. Nothing like saving money on tp when you have to spend $300,000+ for a rig.
Y're killing me!!! lol Lol LOL!

RE: Awning torsion assembly help

Read the directions that come with the assembly very closely, especially ALL the safety warnings. The spring can be dangerous if treated irresponsibly, but if you do it as they suggest, the job is a piece of cake. Just go slow and take your time.

RE: "Must see" / "must do" in Fairbanks?

Steam Boat and go on to North Pole and see Santa's House (short drive).
All in all, Fairbanks is VERY DISAPPOINTING. Nasty old dirty shanty town.
MikeSorry that Alaska didn't fit your bill with all upscale homes. Try putting your home in -60 deg weather for 4 months every year and let's see how you and it holds up. I think that Fairbanks is a very nice city with some very wonderful people.Me too. I thought it was a great place.
